Magneto was once turned into a literal crying baby — by his own creation!
The Featured Fact

In Defenders #16 (1974), Magneto unveiled his secret weapon: Alpha the Ultimate Mutant, an artificially evolved being built with alien technology to help him conquer the world. But as Alpha used his powers, he rapidly evolved — biologically and emotionally — far beyond his creator.

Reading the minds of everyone present, Alpha concluded that Magneto had lied to him and, worse, that Magneto and his Brotherhood had been behaving "as if they were egotistical children." His punishment fit the diagnosis: Alpha reversed their aging and turned Magneto, Mastermind, Blob, Lorelei, and Unus the Untouchable into crying infants — then wiped the incident from the minds of nearly everyone on Earth and flew off into space.

Professor Xavier took the infant Magneto to Muir Island and placed him in the care of Moira MacTaggert, planning to raise him to adulthood a second time — this time without the horrors of Auschwitz. He never got the chance: the Shi'ar agent Davan Shakari, operating as Erik the Red, used accelerated-aging technology to restore Magneto to his physical prime in X-Men #104 (1977) — stronger than before, powers at their peak, memories intact.

Why It's Obscure

This happened in a Defenders book, not an X-Men title — so even longtime X-Men readers routinely miss it. It was also deliberately erased in-universe: Alpha wiped the event from humanity's memory.

1974–77

Trivia
Years later, Magneto himself would briefly adopt the "Erik the Red" alias — the same identity once worn by the man who un-babied him.
